Welcome!

 Welcome to your library’s website.

Let us share how you can best navigate this site in the hopes of enhancing your experience with Schmaling Memorial Library and better utilizing the resources we have to offer you.

The Catalog (PrairieCat) — The modern card catalog. She may not be beautifully constructed with those neat little drawers, but this digital version allows you not only to search by the traditional title, author, and subject, but also across the collections of over 300 libraries in Illinois.

Policies — This page links to all the fun details concerning circulation rules, behavior in the library, how we handle fines, what fees we charge for certain services, and what we expect if you borrow materials through our inter-library loan system.

Posts — The site hopes to keep a variety of posts published, which will be meant to keep you informed of our new materials, upcoming meetings, activities and community events, pictures and whatever else we think you may appreciate!

Posts specifically listing new additions and resources to the library are showcased in the right sidebar. All other recent posts are listed above that along with a drop-down menu listing the various  categories of posts.  A category of particular interest is the highlight category: it includes posts highlighting a special book, resource, or  collection that we find to be valuable hopefully appreciated by you, our patrons, as  well!   We also hold on to an archive of older posts (accessed at the bottom of the site); or simply use one of the search bars to find what you’re looking for.

Events — This section displays  current and  upcoming meetings, special events, activities and programs that occur at or involve the library.  The calendar view is an option under the “Events” menu and in miniature on the right-hand side bar.  A list of the soonest upcoming events and meetings is always displayed to the left.  A post listing all the regularly scheduled holiday closings can be reached here.

The Children’s Room Access internet resources for reading recommendations and award winning book lists, plus a plethora of educational links.  Also, find out about our special weekly program, Teddy Bear Tuesdays, and when June approaches, stay on top of the  multitude of activities offered during our Summer Reading Program

YA (Young Adult) — We have devoted a separate page to all things YA; well, not ALL things: book things. You’ll find reading lists, links to relevant YA blogs, and anything else the hip folk want to see there. There are also a few questions in an attempt to feel out the crowd as far as activities go, like maybe having a YA book club, game night, etc….would love any feedback so if you know any teens or young adults, please pass or share it along.
