Calling all kids! Schmaling is starting a Lego Club!
When: Every Friday from 3:30pm to 4:30pm starting September 8th
Who: 3rd – 8th grade students . . . but all ages are welcome!
Every Friday after school, come and work a series of building challenges: when you complete 5 you get a prize! The time is open – so come for a few minutes, or stay the whole time. However, the only time to complete the challenges is during the designated time, and participants will be using the library’s Legos only. Pictures may be taken of the completed challenges and some may also be put on display.
Schmaling Memorial (Fulton) Public Library will hold an informational session this Thursday, July 27th, at 5:30pm for those interested in becoming foster parents. Mr. William Hart, of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services will provide a brief presentation on the requirements of becoming a foster parent in Illinois and will answer any questions that attendees have.
As of Jan. 31, DCFS reports that there were 17 children from Whiteside County in foster care and 8 from Lee Count, but only 2 registered foster parents! In total, the state is responsible for more than 16,000 children. (http://www.saukvalley.com/…/dcfs-lee-and-whiteside…/ah8601m/)
Mr. Hart said the more foster parents there are in the area, the better it will be for children, allowing them to stay close to their family in hopes of being reunited with them, staying in the same school, and keeping close to their friends.
The Library is located at 501 10th Avenue in Fulton. You may call the Library at 815-589-2045 and ask for Britni if you have questions prior to the informational session.
