2020 Summer Reading @ Schmaling

Dig Deeper: Read, Investigate, Discover

Calling all readers! It’s time to register for the Schmaling Summer Reading Program!!!! Due to the pandemic, we’re trying something new this year. We’re doing an online program using a product called ReadSquared! We are super excited to be using this new program and we hope you’ll like it! If you do not have internet access, you can still register for the program and use paper reading slips. Please call the library at 815-589-2045 to register for the paper program.

Reading Programs (use the grade your child will be going into in the fall):

Read to Me: Preschool, Kindergarten, 1st Grade

Rookie Reader: 2nd-3rd Grade

Independent Reader: 4th-5th Grade

Young Adult: 6th-12th Grade

Adult: Adults age 18+ (and/or high school graduates)

To participate in the Adult Reading program, you must have a valid Schmaling Library Card. A Library Card is not required to participate in the online Young Adult or any of the online Children’s programs. Participants without a valid Schmaling Library card are only eligible for the digital badges and certificate in the online program. To be eligible for physical prizes and entry in the grand prize drawings, participants must have a valid Schmaling Library Card (or a parent of a child participant must have a valid card). Parents of River Bend Students with non-resident student cards are not eligible to participate in the adult reading program unless they have their own non-resident card in their own name.

Students in the Young Adult Program will be counting pages read. They will be required to log the title and author of the books they have read. They should not log a book unless they have finished it. These may be books of their choosing but should be at their reading/interest level (we understand that reading and interest levels are not always the same) and must be chapter books. Picturebooks and easy readers will not be accepted and will be removed from reading logs.

Online Registration Instructions:

  1. Go to
  2. On the right-hand side, in the login box, choose Register Now.
  3. If you are a parent and would like to register yourself and your child, choose Myself and Children. If you are registering just yourself or just your child, choose Myself. If you are registering just your child, fill in the form with your child’s information. It will ask for parent name toward the end of the form, which is when you fill out your information. DO NOT CHOOSE MY GROUP!
  4. Follow the prompts for registration. See above for registration guidelines for which program you or your child should sign up.

Program Dates: The Summer Reading Program will take place June 8 – July 18. Your reading may only be logged between those dates. Please note that only half of the total completion points for your designated program may be entered per day. So, if the number of points for completion of your program is 800 points, you will only be able to log up to 400 points per day, so do not wait until the last minute to log your reading!

If you have any questions or need assistance with registering for the program, please call the library at 815-589-2045 or email Happy Reading!
