Schmaling Memorial Public Library provides free access to e-books through the eRead Illinois Program.

Illinois Heartland Library System and Reaching Across Illinois Library System (RAILS)* have partnered with the Illinois State Library and Baker & Taylor to provide this access. eRead Illinois is a two year statewide program designed to increase access to e-books for Illinois residents and grow e-book expertise among library staff, library system staff, and Illinois residents. Initial funding for eRead Illinois was provided by a grant from Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White through the Illinois State Library.

Axis 360 is the digital media platform providing a system for circulating e-books and e-audiobooks from the eRead Illinois shared collection. Patrons will be able to check out e-books or e-audiobooks for free. Patrons will have access across a number of devices including iPad, iPhone, Android, Windows, Kindle Fire, Nook and Sony Reader devices and many more. Patrons will need a valid Schmaling Memorial Public Library card to check out e-books or e-audiobooks. You must therefore stop by the library to receive your login instructions. Be sure to visit the eRead Illinois website to learn more about this beneficial opportunity and go here to directly scour the great selection or login.
