Closed For Labor Day
September 5, 2016
Just a reminder that Schmaling will be CLOSED on Monday for my birthday . . . I mean LABOR DAY. So thank you bygone Canadians from the 1870’s who got really mad that one time about working crazy hours, and also to President Grover Cleveland for making Labor Day an official holiday in 1894 (even though Oregon had beat him to it having made it a holiday 7 years previous).
The above flashback is a neat bit of history from 1910 that was published by the Sylvan Valley News in Brevard, N.C. The poem was written by J.A. Edgerton for Labor Day (Sep. 2), 1910. The photo, as it states, is of the Washington Arch, located in Washington Square Park, New York City.
